Screenings
Cystoscopy
The passage of a small telescope (rigid or flexible) through the urethra into the bladder.
Preparation:
- Nothing to eat or drink for 1 hour before the test
- Take antibiotic the morning or the test, if instructed by physician
Prostate Biopsy
A small needle on a spring a spring device, placed above ultrasound probe, is used to take prostate biopsies.
Preparation:
- Take antibiotic the morning of the biopsy
- Nothing to eat or drink for 3 hours before test
- No aspirin, Motrin, Advil, or other blood thinner for 7 days before biopsy
Plan on going home immediately after biopsy and staying home all day
Prostate Ultrasound
A probe (size of an exam finger) is inserted into the rectum to take pictures of the prostate, seminal vesicles and bladder.
Preparation:
- Nothing to eat or drink for 3 hours before test
Vasectomy
Male sterilization done through incisions in the scrotum.
Preparation:
- Shave scrotal area (no need to shave above penis)
- Make plans to go home immediately after procedure, t lie down and apply ice to scrotal area
- Bring scrotal supporter or scrotal suspensory (can be purchased at drug store) with you
- No aspirin, Motrin, Advil, or any other blood thinners 7 days before vasectomy
